Summer sketch dump

Of procrastinative doodles produced whilst writing my dissertation, containing representations of self, friends, miscellaneous people, imagined people, characters, and a random castle in a lake. I still don't understand why the picture gets automatically dimmed.

Tools: A mighty pencil; Corel painter.

Christian

Meet Christian, a pilgrim who journeys to the Celestial Country.

Wouldst thou be in a dream, and yet not sleep?
Or wouldst thou in a moment laugh and weep?
Wouldest thou lose thyself, and catch no harm,
And find thyself again without a charm?
Wouldst read thyself, and read thou knowst not what,
And yet know whether thou art blest or not,
By reading the same lines? O then come hither,
And lay my book, thy head, and heart together.

Tool: Corel Painter

I don't understand how/why when I upload pictures they are somehow automatically dimmed. This is slightly irritating.

New character...

... which came into existence accidentally.

I wanted to draw Wysg originally, and then realised I was in fact drawing someone new.

For the informed, you've probably noticed the (penannular, in fact) brooch which fastens the coat was clearly an Irish-Sea type common throughout Viking-Age Scotland. And although it isn't very clear, the sword was inspired by Viking swords as well. The Viking exhibition at the British Museum was really cool.

Hence, I think I'll name him Rhys or something, which sounds vaguely like Rus.

Tool: Corel Painter plus texture added with Photoshop
Time: more than I should spend. 2.5 hours?

The flute player

I am terribly sorry for the lack of updates lately. Life has been too wonderfully busy. However, I have dug up some old work that for some reason I have never published. I shall slowly upload them. Here is one. Originally painted in 2012 for a friend who eventually didn't use it as originally intended.

Tool: Acrylics on canvas
Size: A4
